Dry needling is a technique using non-injection needles, the same as what is used in the practice of acupuncture. Dry needling uses solid state needles (very thin) and relies on the needles effect on the target tissue (usually muscle) to have an effect, rather than injecting a substance into the tissue. Where acupuncture is based on Eastern Medicine, Dry needling is based on our Western understanding of the human body.
It is an effective treatment method for myofascial trigger points (or ‘knots’) that can cause pain and muscle tightness. It can also be used to help correct muscle imbalances and improve joint function.
All of our physiotherapists have undertaken study in the area of dry needling.
